Sri Kalyan Kumar Hajra is the Director Technical in JMS Mining Pvt. Limited. He graduated in Mining Engineering from Bengal Engineering College, Shibpur, University of Calcutta (Now, Indian Institute of Engineering, Science & Technology, IIEST, Shibpur) in the year 1990.
He joined Eastern Coalfields Limited in 1990 and continued there till 2008. He obtained First Class Mine Managers Certificate of Competency in 1998 (Exam. held on 1995) and assumed the charge of Mine Manager in the year 2000 as the 1st candidate out of the entire 1990 batch in Coal India Ltd.
He spent his entire career in big underground mines, out of which a significant period in highly gassy Degree-III mines. He extensively worked with SDL/LHD/LDCC/MDCC/Belt Conveyors, Skip Winding in both Shaft and Incline Mines with both Caving and Stowing operations. In 2008, he left ECL and joined P&H Joy Mining Equipment India Ltd (a Joy Global Subsidiary), a global leader in state-of-the art underground equipment manufacturing, to peruse career in modern underground technology. He was transferred in Joy Mining Services, a subsidiary of P&H Joy Mining Equipment India Ltd in 2010 and has been continuing till then. Meanwhile Joy Mining Services has been divested with Simplex Infrastructures Ltd in 2012 and is rechristened as JMS Mining Services Pvt. Ltd.
He is a Chartered Engineer (IEI) and obtained Graduate Diploma in Operations Research in 1993 and is a Recognised Qualified Person (RQP) to prepare Mine Plans under MCR 1960. He was trained in “Mines Rescue & Recovery Work” under Mines Rules 1985 and a Qualified Internal Auditor for ISO 14001:2004 & OHSAS 18001:2007. He attended and submitted papers in many national & international seminars. He attended “Leadership in Management” Programme in Carnegie Mellon University in USA as a Fulbright-Nehru-CII Fellow under the aegis of United States- India Education Foundation in 2011.
Sri Hajra is a member of MGMI, IMMA, MEAI, ORSI, Institution of Engineers, CII (Eastern Region) Safety Task Force, CII ER Minerals & Mining Task Force etc. He travelled extensively in countries like USA, UK, Poland, South Africa, Australia, China etc. to gain 1st hand experience in Longwall Mining, Continuous Miner, Bolter Miner and best practices on modern mining safety. Sri Hajra is NCC Trained and is fond of Cricket, Football, Books, Newspaper and contemporary political, economic and social developments.
